California began this transition years ago and 2015 has been a GREAT year for solar power in California. State REGULATIONS require electric utilities to get 33% of their power from renewable sources by 2020. And utilities are on track to meet this goal. Rooftop solar PV gets most of the public's attention because people see rooftop systems in their own neighborhoods. But large scale utility solar systems can generate electricity at an even lower cost per unit than individual rooftop systems due to massive economies of scale.
